As per the Supreme Court Judgment and guidelines issued in 1997 to provide for the effective enforcement of the basic human rights of gender equality and guarantee against abuse, particularly against women harassment at workplaces, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued circulars since 1998, advising all universities to establish a permanent cell and a committee and to develop guidelines to combat sexual harassment, violence against women, and ragging in colleges and universities.

The Women's Cell Scheme started in the year 2011 at Sir Issac Newton College of Arts and Science, Pappakovil, Nagapattinam.

Women's Cell

Women's Cell is a growing community of women in our college, who share a common purpose to learn, educate, and collaborate on ideas that have the power to effect meaningful and positive change while fighting the odds they face.

  • The Cell will handle complaints of sexual and other harassment involving female students, teaching, and non-teaching staff.
  • It processes all individual complaints and takes suitable action as per the University Act.
  • The Principal acts as the President of the Cell and appoints its members.
  • Women’s Cell activities are integrated throughout the academic year.
  • The Cell may form or revise policies for grievance redressal in line with Supreme Court and government guidelines.
  • It educates students and staff on legal rights and methods to combat harassment.
  • Encourages leadership qualities and democratic attitudes among women.
  • Organizes essay competitions on women’s issues, with top entries published in the college magazine.
